I ♥ Hokkaido~ ¦ 3
@_@ Lots, and lots of photographs from Hokkaido. About 3.40 mb worth of them I thought fit for posting. Here's the first batch of 2.

* That whole large fish-like island is Hokkaido ♥
Day 1: Tokyo onwards to Sapporo
Day 2: Reach Sapporo, switch trains to Kushiro, then to Nemuro
Day 3: Head back to Kushiro, then head to Abashiri
Day 4: Off to Asahikawa, Furano, Takikawa and Sapporo
Day 5: Half a day exploring Sapporo, then plane back to Tokyo
Day 1 ![]() A night train meant for one to sleep in to pass time. Joyce and I set off on it at about 7 in the evening. ![]() Just a rough idea on how narrow the rooms are. The trains have showers and all though... Day 2 ![]() Kushiro train station. Cute little store selling station bentos~ ![]() Kushiro train station. The one-car train that we took to Nemuro... For people living in Tokyo, the usual train consists of at least 10 cars so this was unusual. ![]() Traditional inn's dinner at Nemuro. We were struggling to reach our hotel in the midst of a typhoon, so didn't have time to stop and take pictures (bleah we could barely stand with the winds around), so went to warm up with a quick trip in the hot baths, then awaited dinner. What a feast it was. ![]() TOO much of a feast. Nemuro is famous for their crabs ('hanasakigani', literally 'flower-blooming crab') so... they gave us each half a crab (not including crab in lots of other dishes already. This specie differs from the rest of the famous Hokkaido sea-crabs in its mean-looking spikes decorating back, legs and claws. I call it the Japanese equivalent of a durian. ![]() Eh. This looks disgusting. Unlike my parents, I don't know how to appreciate crab roe... especially when it looks this beautifully squirmish. Don't know about you guys on the other side of the world, but a lot of Asians have no qualms taking seafood whole (as in looking as it was when it was still alive, not fillet-ed or processed). Me, I don't usually have a problem with crab. I love crab. But crab roe is... -_-; Even more so when your stomach is right about ready to burst from a complete meal. I don't know how Joyce managed to finish the entire thing because I could only consume the flesh in em legs (roe looked too ew for me to even try picking at the body... ack my Dad would kill me for wasting one of his favorite seafood treats...) I don't fancy the taste of this specie... tastes more like fish o_O Perhaps I should stick with the freshwater ones instead. They're less painful to take apart too. By the time we were done with dinner, we were feeling too bloated to even move. Day 3 ![]() Overview of Nemuro the next morning. As you can see, the hell-sent typhoon cleared up. ![]() Nemuro, street. Joyce and I walked around town for a bit after a good breakfast (wasn't included in our package, but the inn-keepers were so kind T_T). The sky was so... SO blue. O_O I did absolutely NOTHING to alter the colors and contrast in these pictures. ![]() Eh... Russian (?) and English on a map in a remote Japanese town... riiiight. It's a nice quaint clean place, but we didn't see any foreigners... ![]() Nemuro's coast. Is it just me or that horizon is concave... Water's choppy because that typhoon was still blowing somewhere out there... ![]() o_O Huge seagulls patrolled the area. ![]() Really white-backed seagull glowing in the strong sunlight. Typhoon was sucking clouds away from the area so it was really bright. ![]() Cute sign. And Tokyo felt WAAAAAY further than just 983km. There's the crab the town's so famous for. ![]() Nemuro train station. This town is at the end of the line... ![]() "Nemuro, Japan's Eastern-most train station" :D Weee~ I've been there! Next I'm aiming for the Northern-most one! :D :D :D ![]() Building in Kushiro. We walked around the town a little (it was a stopover), and had a hard time finding a place for lunch. Says: A cup of coffee is, black as the devil, hot as hell, pure as an angel, sweet as love. Cute, but I hate coffee :D ![]() On the train to Abashiri. -_-; It's so difficult to take ANYTHING from a moving train. Windows reflect me, the train interior, the camera itself, not to mention has dirt and all on it BLEAH. ![]() Heading towards Abashiri at dusk. You can see it in the distance as that piece of land jutting out. The sea is still throwing a fit because of the typhoon (wherever the heck it was at the time?) |
